The owner and crew of M/Y Timoneer are under way with a delivery of school supplies for a school on Easter Island.
Volunteers with YachtAid Global, the 45m vessel provisioned the supplies, which were sponsored by the owner and YAG, in San Francisco before heading to Galapagos en route to Easter Island, the easternmost island in the South Pacific. She is estimated to arrive on Nov. 30. (Follow their course on www.timoneer.org.)
YachtAid Global is a non-profit organization founded by Capt. Mark Drewelow to give back to the coastal communities that megayachts visit. While traveling there, he had the idea to bring provisions, school supplies, building supplies, medical supplies and whatever else the local people needed.
Founded in 2006, the organization has developed a network of ambassadors in many of these places, particularly in Central and South America, who handle the customs and logistics of receiving the supplies.
S/Y Timoneer was the first yacht to volunteer with YAG mission back in 2006.
